Is it possible to connect to live from a non host computer?

I have my computer that I want to connect to xbox live in my room, which is connected to the host computer downstairs by a wireless adapter.

I have an ethernet cable running from the computer in my room to the 360. I try to go on and it says IP address error, is there a way to do this or does it have to be connected to the host computer?

Yes, internet works fine on both of them, I’m running vista on this computer too if it matters somehow.

1) The “host” is your router, not a computer. If you’re running the cabling from modem to router to computer to other computer to XBox, you’ll have a problem.

Connect the XBox in either of 2 ways – cable to the router, or wireless to the router.

If you connect the XBox to your computer, you have to run Internet Connection Sharing on the computer. That puts AT LEAST two network address translations between the XBox and the internet (three if the modem does translation too) – and while you’ll be able to get on the internet with the XBox, some games won’t work.

If you still want to do it that way 1) you need a crossover cable to connect them together and 2) you have to set the XBox to automatically get its IP address. (You’ll have NAT problems, but there’s nothing you can do about it if you connect the XBox to the computer.)
