Computer question: Reformatting hard drive/saving favorite bookmarks?

For a whole host of reasons that I won’t bore you with, I have decided I need to reformat my hard drive. This would be a “destructive” (wipe everything clean and start over) reformat.

Of course, I have the main recovery discs and will back up all crucial files.

However, my question is this: Is there a way I can have my computer save/remember my actual bookmarks and favorites list/links in IE? I hate to have to recontruct that and go hunting and saving and organizing them all again after the reformatting process.

Note: Please be specific and thorough. I am not a computer wizard and need to be walked through step by step if there is a way to do what I am asking.

This would be a PC, not a Mac. It is a Compaq Presario and I believe I am running IE 6 if any of that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Just export your bookmarks in IE and store it somewhere. When you have finished reloading your OS and everything else import it again

To export: in Internet Explorer, go to the File menu and select “Import and Export…” This brings up the wizard. Click next, and then select “Export Favorites.” Click next, and (if you have multiple folders within your favorites menu) choose which folder you want to save. Choosing the ‘Favorites’ folder will save everything. Click next, and use the “Browse” button to choose a location to save the file. Click Finish and you’re done.

To import: in Internet Explorer, go to the File menu and select “Import and Export…” In the wizard, select “Import Favorites.” Use the “Browse” button to find the location of your saved bookmark. Select the destination folder within your current Favorites, where the links will be placed, and click next. Click finish, and you’re set

You will see that at the end of the address it saves to, it automatically names the file “bookmark.htm” You can change the name if you like, but leave the *.htm extension
