hosting files online free
Is there a free place online where I can host my video files for a friend?

I have about 20-25 personal video clips that are in .wmv format, and each about 150MB in size. Is there any place online where I can host these for my friend to see, but limit them from being seen by anyone else?

There are many file hosts online that you can hosts files for free. Since your going to be using it for personal reasons I would use hotfile http://hotfile.com/register.html?reff=270698. Using well known places like megaupload may result in having your files being listed on public sites like megadownload.

By accessing your web hosting service’s website. There should be a link/place to log-on.

I can’t provide any more information because I don’t know who your web host provider is?

What is the difference between web hosting & domain names?

All this website stuff is confusing, do they go hand in hand?
what should i get & what size if im just doing a small business site were people can order products online?

Domain name is your web address. Examples include

http://www.yahoo.com
http://www.google.com
http://www.orbitz.com
http://www.ssa.gov

That web address is called domain name. It can be a .com for commercial sites, .gov for government, .org for organizations, .net and several others

You get your domain name from companies such as GoDaddy.com by first checking in if the domain is available, which can be anywhere from $6.99 per year to $45 or more per year

If the domain is available, you now create a website using that domain name as the address. Once you have the website done, you contact a web hosting company so they can put your website on the Web using your domain name as address. Web hosting can be anywhere from $3.99 per month to as much as $2000+ for dedicated web hosting

seo hosting location

seo hosting location
Does hosting in a foreign country have an impact on SEO?If I host in USA, would it make affect UK rankings?

Rackspace suggested using the UK based datacentre would be better for SEO for a UK based site. Is this true or would hosting in the USA be just as good for SEO? Does the server location make any difference?

This would be something that is difficult to test due to the nature of the Internet. So keep in mind that we don’t have definitive information (such as a test case) to reference. It has been suggested in the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) community that a server’s location may possibly affect your regional rankings in Google – which makes sense.

For Example: if you have a site based in the USA with a .com ending that describes something in the UK, having your site hosted IN the UK with a .co.uk domain most likely will increase your relevance in google.co.uk rankings.

As a good rule of thumb, great sites make for great rankings.

So take the time, get a content person fully in charge of this to create and frequently post different content for the UK site that is tailored for that region. You can even do UK based advertising if the site is made in such a way that would not take away from its functionality.

Most SEO ideology is really just common sense when you think back on it. Of COURSE its better to have something in the market where people are looking for it. The hard part is IDENTIFYING the market and targeting it.

Best of luck
